I was born and raised in Sudbury, and I have been lucky enough to begin my medical education in my hometown. Before medical school, I completed my undergraduate degree at Laurentian University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Kinesiology. I fell in love with medicine at the age of five while helping my dad recover from a serious illness. I knew at a very young age that this was the career path I was meant to take. I grew up in the gymnastics world and competed as a senior national gymnast, spending many years coaching. This experience fostered my love for working with children, which has inspired me to pursue a career in pediatrics. Just over three years ago, I broke my neck and spent months recovering, experiencing all aspects of the healthcare field. The healthcare practitioners I worked with went above and beyond to assist me in every aspect of my recovery, and I am thrilled to be able to use my first-hand experience to impact individuals’ lives the same way they did for me.

Broadly, I study novel therapeutics for people facing severe depression and suicidal ideation, especially in underserved communities. I’m involved with initiatives to improve health in remote regions of Canada, particularly Northern Ontario’s Indigenous communities. To that end, I launched a collaborative project to expand mental health access and support culturally respectful care in the North. I love family time, jogging, and fly-in camping and fishing trips. I’m excited to soon settle back in Northern Ontario, where I hope to pursue medicine and serve the communities that shaped me. I’m excited to meet you all! Feel free to connect—before or after our program—if you want to chat about the brain, life balance, or getting involved in local initiatives.

Four Pillars of CampMed
CampMed is founded on four pillars of learning: interprofessionalism, leadership, culture, and clinical skills – the knowledge and skills that participants gain from attending CampMed.
Interprofessional
Participants attending CampMed learn the importance of interprofessionalism in health-care settings by learning about various health careers and how those professionals work together to ensure the well-being and health of patients. The majority of the interprofessional learning at CampMed is provided by the health-care professionals who participate in the career fair as well as their mentors who are the NOSM’s students and undergraduate student volunteers from Northern Ontario.
Leadership
Throughout the week, the CampMed participants are provided with opportunities to observe the leadership skills of their mentors to build on their own leadership skills set as they are placed in situations that give them a safe setting to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves to lead.
Cultural
At CampMed, participants will learn about Francophone and Indigenous health and culture in ways that will broaden their understanding of health needs of Northern Ontario. In simple terms they learn what it means to be a socially accountable health professional. These cultural competencies are woven throughout the week-long curriculum.
Clinical Skills
CampMed offers participants a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience by learning medical and health sciences clinical skills, such as casting, inserting an NG tube, suturing, etc.
